The prestigious Plastics Recycling Awards Europe 2020 were presented during the virtual Plastics Recycling Show Europe. MCC Verstraete participated in the Product Technology Innovation of the Year category with two entries: Interactive IML, an IML label developed for smart and intelligent packaging, and SealPPeel die-cut lidding in polypropylene, a completely new product. SealPPeel came out on top and was declared the winner.
The MCC Verstraete team sees the award as a valuable recognition of its continued focus on innovation and continued commitment to developing products that contribute to sustainable plastic packaging and a circular economy. SealPPeel is a great example of MCC Verstraete's sustainability efforts. SealPPeel is a novelty that allows the entire package to be easily sorted and recycled: it introduces a monopolypropylene die-cut lidding, replacing the existing aluminum lids. Consumers no longer need to separate the jar and lid for proper disposal.
An added value to the plastic packaging industry
"With 11 other finalists in the Product Technology Innovation of the Year category, the competition was fierce. We are more than proud to take home this award. We are committed to sustainable development and are constantly thinking about improving existing technologies for in mould labels and developing completely new products (such as SealPPeel lidding) to optimize, reuse, reduce and recycle. This award recognizes the added value that our IML labels and die-cut lids provide in achieving a circular plastic packaging economy."
Nico Van de Walle, Product and Circular Economy Manager
